The Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine Holds its First CME Program on Scientific Research and Clinical Application of Low-Carbohydrate Diets

NEW YORK, July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine and the University of South Florida College of Medicine will jointly sponsor a CME Program, ``Low-Carbohydrate Diets: Scientific Research and Clinical Application,'' at the New York Marriott Marquis on Saturday, Sept. 9 through Sunday, Sept. 10. The speakers will include employees of the Atkins Center as well as experts from prestigious institutions such as Duke University, Ball State University, University of Delaware, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and the Schneider's Children's Hospital of Long Island.

Dr. Robert C. Atkins, founder and executive medical director of the Atkins Center, will lecture about the clinical perspectives of low-carbohydrate dieting. Other topics to be addressed include very low-carbohydrate diets and nutritional supplements in mildly overweight individuals, evolving strategies in the management of Type 2 diabetes, the epidemic of adolescent obesity and treatment strategies, nutritional interventions for the overweight teen, and application of the four phases of the Atkins Diet.

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to interpret how various clinical conditions respond to low-carbohydrate regimens, explain the scientific rationales for low-carbohydrate diets, and describe research evaluation mechanisms of fat burning.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essentials and Standards of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education. The University of South Florida College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Education to sponsor medical education for physicians.
